Wow, a real life blog! And I have no idea how to start! Well, actually I do. Instead of making a grandiose entrance, the beginnings of this blog will primarily deal with…the beginnings of this blog! With that in mind, we begin.

Rather than get a blog hosted somewhere else, I decided to do everything on my own domain. I enjoy doing things myself and learning along the way (that is, until I throw my hands up in the air, say one expletive or another, and walk away in frustration). Barring that, I do revel in the satisfaction of a job well done.

There wasn’t that much dirty work to getting everything up and running, though I think I was secretly happy to learn that my hosting provider did not have the latest version of WordPress installed. Rather than wait for them to update the “one-click install”, I went ahead and did my own installation of version 2.1, starting with typing:

wget http://wordpress.org/latest.tar.gz
tar -xzvf latest.tar.gz

I don’t know whether it’s because I don’t use bash as often as I’d like, but installing from the shell put a smile on my face.

We’ll continue this later. Right now, I really want to see if pushing “Publish” works!

  1. Do I still get credit for sucking you into the blogging world?

  2. Of course. I suppose I should put a “we’ve moved” notice on LiveJournal. :)

  3. Hahaha, another one sucked in! Good job Sarah (even though we’ve never met)!!

Now I will torment you endlessly on here. PS let me know if comment spam gets the better of you. I have a remedy.
